We would love to have you join us for the World Firefighter Games so we wanted to get you a few details in case you are able to join us.  Note:

  (1) The World Firefighter Games is a large international multi-sport competitions - in fact it's one of the largest in the world (their sister event, "The World Police and Firefighter Games" happenning in odd-numbered yearos is thet second largest in the world, only slightly smaller than the Summer Olympic games and larger than the third position Commonwealth Games).

  (2) If you would like to register officially as a spectator ("Accompanying person"), you can do that on the World Firefighter Games site (http://www.cvent.com/events/world-firefighters-games-los-angeles-2014/event-summary-a1ddb9ffe06d4763bc71248d6d4209f1.aspx) and pay $50 there. Or if you can get us $50, we might be able to add you to our registration - contact Kevin (US: +1 414 899 1112, Kevin.Quincey@mac.com, UK/international/SMS/FaceTime: +44 7970 326 380) or Suzanne, get us $50, and we'll add you to our registration.  In the past, many of the events were open to the public to view even if they had not officially registered.  The website says the official spectator registration allows you into the opening and closing ceremonies but at past games, it wasn't formally ticketed so we're not sure how to advise you on that - but surely if their viewing areas are not fully booked up, you'd be able to decide on the day too.

So here are the official notes about the games that Suzanne (and Kevin) will be competing in this year - as we know them (as of this writing in May 2014):

The 2014 World Firefighters Games will be held in Los Angeles, USA from August 15 to 24, 2014. The 2014 Games follow the highly successful 2012 Games hosted in Sydney, Australia.

Celebrate the opening of the 2014 Los Angeles World FIrefighters Games with our special Opening Ceremony program of entertainment. Be part of the athletes march welcoming all competitors and the official opening by our host city, LA Fire Chiefs, and dignitaries at the Los Angeles Convention Center. See Katie Armiger perform live and enjoy other headline acts that will kick off the Games with a spectacular concert and celebration honouring firefighters and first responders from around the world at the biggest and best World Firefighters Games yet!

NOTES : Competition is NOT open to spouses. Number of participants is limited. Equipment supplied - Breathing Apparatus, turnout gear (Jacket & bunker pants) & helmet. There will no weight divisions. Event may be subject to modification by T F A committee if required. B A will be worn during Stages 1,3 & 4 and NOT during stage 3, the obstacle course. Teams will consist of a minimum of 3 members, and a maximum of 5 members The best 3 times from each team will be used to decide the winners of the team event.

***VERY IMPORTANT - THIS EVENT IS A FULL FIREFIGHTING GEAR EVENT (BOOTS, HELMET & FULL KIT)***
